Let’s keep our grandparents safe from COVID-19!
As immunity declines with age, our grandparents and the elderly are more vulnerable to infectious diseases. Further, living within a larger family or in institutionalized settings like a nursing or retirement homes creates greater risk of infection. Therefore, exposure to the virus MUST be prevented!
What can our grandparents and the elderly do?
Wash hands with soap frequently.
Practice social distancing. Don’t receive any visitors unless absolutely necessary. Don’t leave home unless absolutely necessary.
If you go out: Avoid large groups. Avoid physical contact. Keep a distance of at least three feet from others. Avoid touching your face. Wash hands after returning home.
Use disinfectant to clean your space regularly.
What can families and caregivers do?
Ensure our grandparents are well informed about the virus and preventive actions. They may not fully understand the messages on television and the media.
Limit visits and take strict measures before/during visits - wash hands and maintain distance.
Provide support with cleaning and shopping, and check-in on them regularly.
Make sure they have adequate medical supplies.
Help them to connect with family and friends via phone and social media applications (Viber, Facetime, Whatsapp, and others).
