Our vision for Aji's

Aji’s mission is to empower the elderly to live healthy and happy lives by providing a platform to showcase their skills and knowledge. Aji’s enables the elderly to make and sell products through our online store, share their stories and experiences on the Aji’s blog and events, and connect with the younger generation via campaigns such as #AskAnAji. We want to create a world where the elderly live happy and healthy lives as active members of their community.

People around the world are living longer, thanks to advances in modern medicine and improved living conditions. While this may be a significant achievement of the modern era, it is a major concern for many governments without policies and programs in place to meet the needs of senior citizens.

Families today are so busy with their tech-fueled lives and the ever-competitive labor market, that they are often unable to spend quality time with their aging parents and grandparents. As a result, the elderly often feel lonely, isolated and helpless. They are overlooked, unengaged and their desire to be productive, active and independent citizens receives little consideration by society as a whole.

The Aji’s organization wants to change that. We want to bring attention to and value elders, to prevent them from becoming the forgotten generation. We want to provoke the younger generation to recognize the value of older people.

Our three main objectives are:

  1. to harness the elderly’s unique skills and knowledge

  2. to strengthen bonds between younger and older generations

  3. to preserve the stories and legacy of the elderly

We aim to achieve this by:
a) Helping the elderly use their skills to make marketable products. Older people have a wealth of skills acquired over a lifetime. Through Aji’s we want to help them revive these skills and use them to sell the products they will be remembered for.

b) Creating intergenerational exchange opportunities. We call on the young people to coordinate between Aji’s and their parents and grandparents. We encourage them to help the elderly make products, keep accounts, and seek answers for #AskAnAji questions.

c) Sharing the stories and experiences of the elderly. We collect and share inspiring stories of the elderly in the form of podcasts and blogs to foster greater understanding between generations, to value elders as active members of the global community and benefit the younger generation by helping them widen their experience and increase their empathy towards others.
